Rosacea Rosacea is a persistent, progressive, and often times embarrassing problem for many people. While researchers are unsure as to the exact cause of rosacea, they believe that it may be linked to a combination of genetic and environmental factors. While there is no cure, the good news is that treatments are available. Current treatment strategies for rosacea include such things as topical prescriptions, home care products, and lifestyle changes to help avoid triggers. In addition, cosmetic practitioners frequently choose laser therapy as one of the recommended treatments for the broken capillaries and redness caused by rosacea. This is because the laser treatments allow them to address the issue at its source by pinpointing the problematic superficial and deep vessels. There are different types of lasers that have proven helpful in treating the effects of rosacea. Regardless of which type of laser you choose, the treatment works by rapidly heating the blood vessels and getting rid of them without harming the surface skin. (Added bonus: these lasers also reduce pore size and tighten the skin!) The two most common lasers for the treatment of redness caused by rosacea are the Intense Pulse Light (IPL) laser and the Pulse Dye lasers, such as the Candela V-Beam. Intense Pulse Light (IPL) laser treatments work great for diffuse redness and are a popular choice. They are not the best option for more pronounced, deeper veins because they do not target individual blood vessels. The Candela V-Beam, a Pulse Dye laser, is the newest technology laser and is great for targeting specific problem areas. The Candela V-Beam laser is great for rosacea redness and severe sun damage. It usually requires multiple treatments for optimal effectiveness, but treatments are gentle and require no downtime.
